Farhana Akther – Professional Photographer
Farhana explores photography as a way to feed her soul during a time when she was struggling with life’s challenges. It helped to keep herself afloat and feel alive. Farhana utilized photography as a therapeutic way to deal with her depression and suicidal tendencies.
Farhana uses photo manipulation to create conceptual images focused on the artistic representation of her own fears, experiences, emotions, dreams, darkness, desires, and pains.
The photographs Farhana creates are of her personal life experiences, feelings, and view of the world at large. Through these photographs, she is able to express and liberate herself from her sufferings and pain; something she was unable to express in other ways. Through her photos, Farhana connects to people who faced similar experiences in their lives. Photography is a medium by which she is able to make deep connections with people and build bridges, who otherwise would have been left alone or unheard of.
This is what photography means to Farhana.
Photography can scream out to protest and send a message loud and clear, that sometimes even a thousand words can’t do. Thus, Farhana is able to use photography as a medium to protest no matter how small or large the issue is.
Farhana also uses photography to deal with her fears by taking pictures of those very issues that are fearful to her. Photography is not just another medium of Art for her, rather it is a lifestyle and a way to express herself. It taught Farhana to live and stay alive by facing her issues and fears through her lens.
